The photo is from a high elevation summer settlement of Bhotiyas in Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, India. As fewer families are choosing to follow the traditional summer migration to cold arid valleys, their houses stand locked and ignored. These houses often are masterpieces of traditional woodcarving art forms, from a bygone era. As the traditional artisans are finding it difficult to get work, the art form is being lost and their masterworks wait for their guardians to return and fill them with life
