Winnowing

November 27, 2017
Jumla, Nepal
Khas woman winnows millet in Jumla district, Nepal. Millet is considered a major crop in the mountain region. Slowly these mountain crops are being replaced by rice and other cereal crops from the plains, even though they are a high source of protein. Lack of use of modern agriculture technology, increasing outmigration of males and drying up of springs and ponds are adding to the woes of mountain farming households.
