This Mountains Under Pressure: ICIMOD International Mountain Day photo contest aims to bring attention to how climate, hunger, and migration are affecting the Hindu Kush Himalaya and to inspire action to include sustainable mountain development in national and global agenda.
- Impacts of climate change in the mountains
How is climate change affecting mountain environments or/and mountain communities?
- Challenges of ensuring food and nutritional insecurity
What are the causes and impacts of food insecurity in mountain areas? What challenges and opportunities come along with mountain agriculture in terms of future food and nutritional security in the Hindu Kush Himalaya?
- Migration away from mountains
What are the causes of outmigration? What are the experiences of people who migrate away from mountains? How does this affect families, in particular women, in both positive and negative ways?
Participants are encouraged to use their photo stories to give a voice to and share the stories of people in the mountains and downstream who are facing and/or overcoming the challenges of climate change and resilience building. Entries sharing stories of women and other marginalized groups are highly encouraged.
